Spencer Horn is currently Curriculum and Instruction Director in the area of science for Birmingham City Schools. He has worked in clinical research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and has 17 years of educational experience as a teacher; Assistant Director of Instruction at the Alabama School of Fine Arts, which was highlighted in Newsweek Magazine as the fourth best high school in the nation; and as a Principal in the Birmingham School District. His assignments and responsibilities have allowed him to work with virtually every aspect of curriculum, instruction, and professional development, as well as personnel and finance.
He has served as Co Principal Investigator or Assistant Project Director on several Federal and Private Foundation grants totaling over 6 million dollars. As a result, he has formed successful partnerships with many community, state and national organizations and agencies, as well as all local universities and colleges in the Birmingham area.
Dr. Horn holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has served on the Board of Directors of several organizations including the Alabama School of Fine Arts, McWane Science Center, and Keep Birmingham Beautiful Commission.
Dr. Horn is married to Dr. Wendy Sykes-Horn and has three sons, Nicholas, Zachary and Joshua.
