Ms. Rita Wright

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction
Butler County

Rita Wright is currently serving as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for Butler County Schools.  She has worked extensively in curriculum, instruction, and educational technology.  She holds an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Alabama, a Master of Arts in Chemistry Education from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Jacksonville State University.  Much of her career has been spent in Calhoun County, Alabama where she served for 13 years as a science teacher, five years as Director of Technology, and three years as Administrative Assistant for Curriculum and Instruction.  Most recently, she worked for the Alabama Department of Education as an Education Administrator directing ACCESS, the Governor’s new state-wide distance learning initiative.  She has also provided curriculum consulting services for the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Education through Brown University and the US Department of Education, completed consulting work for Alabama school systems, and worked for Jacksonville State University as a trainer in the regional in-service center.  Mrs. Wright has presented nationally on collaborative education, using data to improve instruction, and integrating technology in the classroom.  Her recognitions include serving as President of the Alabama Educational Technology Association (2000-2002), serving on the AEA Board of Directors (1995-1997) and being named the Alabama Middle School Science Teacher of the Year (1994).  Mrs. Wright currently resides in Montgomery with her husband of 25 years, Ed Wright.  Ed is a business officer for Alabama Power Company.  They have two daughters; Jessica is a junior at the University of Alabama and Whitney is a freshman at Auburn University.
